An american advisory committee is now checking out the unique health hazards of menthol smokes and may even lobby for a menthol cigarette ban. Are menthol smokes worse when compared with standard ones with regards to the health effects of smokes? Menthol vs Normal Cigarettes: Are Menthol Cigarettes Even worse? Smoking menthol cigarettes could be more hard to kick compared to smoking unflavored ones – which makes it harder for a menthol cigarette smoker to kick the habit. The increased potential for addiction seems to come from the more gratifying menthol flavour. According to a survey posted in Nicotine and Tobacco Research and in the New York Times, menthol smokes are well-liked by three-quarters of black smokers. Black smokers, as a group are more unlikely to give up smoking than their Caucasian counterparts who purchase normal cigarettes seventy-five percent of the time. Experts believe it’s the menthol flavor that partly accounts for the lower rate of smoking cessation between blacks. People who smoke menthol cigarettes smoke fewer cigarettes, but take in more nicotine with each inhalation relative to people who smoke regular cigarettes. Menthol is frequently put into cigarette brands that are labeled “light”. Understandably, people who smoke these light cigarettes consume as much or more nicotine because they take much deeper inhalations and hold the smoke inside their lung more. Light cigarettes might not be so “light” after all. Will There Be a Menthol Cigarette Prohibition? Cigarettes with added flavors for example fruit, cola, spice, and chocolate were forbidden in 2009 because of their potential to entice young children to smoke and become addicted. Adding the fact that at younger age the harm to the health may be significantly greater, that gives the flavoured cigarettes quite negative image.
